Activities in East Bali

The surroundings of Candidasa

 Wandering the roads of east Bali is one of the island’s great pleasures. Rice terraces spill down hillsides under swaying palms, wild volcanic beaches are washed by pounding surf and age-old villages soldier on with barely a trace of modernity. Watching over this region is Gunung Agung, the 3142m volcano known as the ‘navel of the world’ and ‘Mother Mountain’, which has a perfect conical shape.

Market of Amlapura

Amlapura , the capital of the Karangasem district is located about 15 km north-East of Candidasa. Every morning there is a colorful local market with spices, fruit, fish and clothes in the center of the town. On the highest point of the road from Candidasa to Amlapura you can’t miss the monkeys of Sang Hyang Ambu Temple, playing on the safety barriers of the road.

Ujung floating palace

Located at Tumbu village, 5 km from Amlapura. The complex served as a palace for the King of Karangasem and his family, especially when other royals were visiting the Kingdom. The serene tranquility is almost unworldly.

Tirtagangga Royal Watergarden

7 km northwest of Amlapura also belongs to the Royal family of Karangasem and was used to relax and recreate.

Sibetan Village

Sibetan village , 15 km north west of Camdidasa is wellknown for its salak ( snakte skin fruit) plantations. Nearby, at the village of Pateh, are the Jagasutra waterfalls.

White Sandy Beach ( pasir putih)

Half way to Amlapura is a dreamy white bounty island beach in a sheltered bay, with some small restaurants , sunbeds and beach umbrellas. Direction Jasri-beach is the Uforia Organic Chocolate Company, which offers a chocolate making workshop.

Tenganan village

appr. 4 km uphill from Candidasa , is known as the best preserved Bali Aga ( original Balinese) village, which is still inhabited by decendants of its original villagers. Traditional crafts, like weaving and making lontar ( drawings on palm leaves) are still practiced.

Goa Lawah

A bat cave, 15 minutes from Candidasa, is an important religious place for the Balinese people. The crowded cave, inhabited by thousands of bats, is believed to protect Bali from evil spirits .

Salt panning

Close to Goa Lowah , at Kusamba beach, there is a small scale sea-salt panning which is great to visit . Buy the real sea salt directly for the fishermen!

Trekking

Various trekking possibilities in East-Bali, the most famous of course climbing Mount Agung. Being an active vulcano, it is also Bali’s most respected mountain. For pure nature losers, the sunrise trek up the mountain is an incredibly rewarding experience!

Rafting

Wild river rafting at Telaga Waja river. Besides the extreme water sport, you can enjoy the beautiful Panorama of the mountains, rice fields and stone cliffs along the streamline.

Snorkling

Fantastic snorkling spots near villa Aamisha. Hire a local fishing boat and they will bring you to amazing snorkling spots , Blue Lagoon being one of the best!

Diving

Good facilities in Candidasa to book your diving trip. Go to Tulemban ( north-East Bali) to explore the Japanese shipwreck, the beautiful coral gardens near Candidasa , Mola Mola ocean sunfish and sharks at Padang Bay . Enjoy!
